Welcome toThe Homeward BoundCollection Browser
The Homeward Bound Collection Browser brings together materials from the Holocaust Centre North Archive, sharing a history of the Holocaust through the lives of survivors and refugees who came to the north of England, and the stories of the family members who did not survive. Here, you can explore personal papers that shed light on individual journeys and memories, as well as the broader global history in which they unfolded. Our themed galleries offer gentle, curated starting points, while the search function allows you to look for specific names, places, dates, types of item, or subjects.
The browser is continually expanding as we catalogue and digitise more material. If your search does not yet return results, please check back soon, subscribe to our newsletter for updates, or contact our Collections team for further information.
Search guide
To search the browser, type a keyword into the search box. The results will show items that include or relate to that word ,whilst allowing for minor fluctuations in spelling and incorporating both accented and non-accented words.
Keywords can include names (for example, Iby Knill or Walter Rabl), places (such as Łódź or Durrës), and subjects (like child refugee, festival or rules). You can also filter by dates, or search by type of item (such as photo or postcard), or by language of the material (for example, German, Polish or Yiddish).
As we continue to catalogue and digitise our collection, more searchable keywords will be added to the browser.
